About the JPG Image Compressor Tool

This tool makes image files smaller by re-saving them as JPEG. Drop in a photo and either aim for a target file size or set the quality by hand.

It reads JPG, PNG, WebP and other formats, and always gives you a JPEG back. Presets cover WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram, Discord and email, or you can set your own limit.

What you can do

How to use the JPG Image Compressor

  1. 1Drop in one or more images, or click to choose them.
  2. 2Pick a preset, or choose Custom for full control.
  3. 3In Custom, set a target file size or a quality level, and turn on resizing if you want to cap the dimensions.
  4. 4Choose whether to keep the EXIF metadata.
  5. 5Check the preview and the before and after sizes, then download.

Target a file size, or set the quality

Target file size is the one to use when something has to stay under a limit. Set a ceiling in KB or MB and the compressor searches for the highest quality that still fits, shrinking the dimensions if it has to. Manual quality is the other way round, you pick the quality and see whatever size comes out.

Transparency and other formats

JPEG cannot store transparency, so any see-through areas in a PNG or WebP come out black. If you need to keep transparency, or you want a PNG, WebP or AVIF file rather than a JPEG, use the Image Converter.

EXIF is only carried over when the original is a JPEG that already has it. Images from PNG or WebP have no EXIF to bring across.
