About the Pomodoro Timer

This tool runs the pomodoro technique for you. Work in timed focus sessions, take a short break after each one, and earn a longer break once you finish a full round. Press start and the timer walks you through the cycle, phase by phase.

The rhythm is yours to tune. Stretch the focus sessions for deep work, shorten the breaks, decide how many sessions make a round, and pick if the next phase should start on its own or wait for you.

How to use the Pomodoro Timer

  1. 1Press start. The classic 25 minute focus session begins counting down.
  2. 2Work until the chime, then take the short break the timer moves you to.
  3. 3Repeat. The dots under the clock show how far into the round you are, and the long break follows the last session.
  4. 4Pause if something interrupts you, or skip ahead when a phase does not fit the moment.
  5. 5Adjust the lengths and auto-start behaviour below the timer to match how you work.

How the pomodoro technique works

The technique is simple: pick a task, work on it with full attention for a fixed stretch, then take a short break before the next stretch. The classic recipe is 25 minutes of work, 5 minutes of rest, and a longer 15 minute break after every fourth session. The fixed end point makes it easier to start, and the breaks keep you fresh over a whole day.

Those numbers are a starting point, not a rule. Many people settle on 50/10 or even 90 minute blocks for deep work. Change the durations until the rhythm feels sustainable, then let the timer enforce it.

Pausing, skipping and switching

Pause freezes the countdown and resume picks it up where it stopped. Skip ends the current phase early and moves to the next one. A skipped focus session still moves the round forward so the long break stays on schedule, but it does not count toward your finished sessions for the day. You can also jump straight to any phase with the buttons above the clock.

Leaving the page

The timer stores when the running phase ends, not how much was left. Reload the page or come back from another tab and the countdown is exactly where it should be. If a session ran out while you were away, it is counted and the timer is ready on the next phase.
